Oh yeah, i love that guitar too. Too heavy to play live. But, it is becoming key to many songs i’m writing now. Mostly this is because I keep it on a nice wooden stand in the TV room. I watch mostly sports, NBA and NFL. MLB playoffs, WS of course. Anyway, I often plink and plonk on it during ads. Or, during the muted game. Sometimes the sound of play by play/color commentary folks annoys me.
I hear ya. 👍 A good friend of mine started the Republic Resonator Guitar Company in 2007. I believe his son now operates that company. Another guitar playing friend was once approached by a confused, old Black gentleman who inquired if James had his "cutter". 😄
Mance Lipscomb once told me when I asked if he had played with Lightnin' Hopkins, "Yes, many times but Lightnin' would only play the piano with me." When I asked him why, Mance grinned and said, "Why, he didn't want his haid cut, man!" 😁
More of this please! I've always loved the sound of a resonating guitar and this kind of groove. Happy Thanksgiving Kevin; blessings to you and your loved ones.
Oh yes way too late. This is what happens to many songs of mine. They appear and disappear sometimes quickly, never to be recalled. I do try and record them all at least into my phone. This substack though is a great place to share them. Part of me wants to release 2 records a year. But the prevailing wisdom among my counsel is to release less music. There are many who disagree within the new music “biz.” What do you think?
Awww. Well unfortunately for you but fortunately for me, I have another favorite song to bug you to record. Time is something that happens while we live to create. “Times a-wasting”; I say “get ‘em down”. Never enough of your creativity.
Jodee you often remind me of things. When Ramsay left his first wife he had rent house in S Austin with a great room in the back of it. It was the perfect rehearsal/recording space. So he let me put a bunch of stuff in there and we did some great recordings. Somewhere I have, i think, i hope, recordings of me, Ramsay and Dan Nugent just making shit up. Hilarious stuff. Ima go try and find it.
Love it. Such beautiful guitar work creating a groove that will be with me all day. And I’m still grooving from the Mucky Duck show! Thank you, Kevin. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
Well, this has got the groove sets me to move! It's purely marvelous and so very you, yet there are some Ramsay elements there!
That axe, did you just get it? I have a Regal that Joe bought new that I'm hoping to sell. Very similar to that one, from what I can tell. He had National cones put in it.
I also have two oldies. One is called Rosetta because it's like the one Sister Rosetta played. Brown and gold sunburst enameled Triolian. 1937. The other is Old Man, a Duolian, who looks like a beaten up old galvanized garbage can. Dull, not shiny. 1934, I think.
I can't post photos here, unfortunately. No, Rosetta is an acoustic resonator, Triolian, brown sunburst enamel on metal. They're both powerful instruments, loud and sturdy. He had Old Man when I met him and he played the hell out of it for several decades. He never had any snazzy electrics other than an Oahu steel guitar that went somewhere, I don't remember where. Sold his Gibson electric (nothing exciting) and pre-CBS tube amp in trade for Rosetta.
These babies need to be played and appreciated rather than sleeping in their cases. If you know anyone that can give them a good home it would thrill me. They're not cheap beaters, though, even though Joe beat them (ha).....with love. I'll find a way to show you some pix if you want to see them. You might know someone who's aching for an old treasure for a sonic love affair.
Brilliant! Have a wonderful day 😋🙂
That ain't bad! I love that resonator guitar, quite the "cutter"! 😁

I am just gonna add, if K Russell & R Midwood ever form a super duo band, we are there!

May need to make that new record a double album if the gems keep comin'!

Yes for sure send me pics
Emailed some.
Wow, let me know before you sell those. Is Rosetta an electric guitar, white Gibson SG?
