The Light In Things
From a prompt in a poetry writing group I missed the deadline for
I delight in their luminosity Between the cracks and inside the boxes judicial intrusion into the autonomy of a co-equal department A facet of the things That drive men to buy rings Lounging in incandescence Delight in the light in things N stuff like that The waves within the widgets N stuff like that I like stuff as much as the next cream puff But if you think I’m gonna go chase the thunder In the buff You got another thing coming I be bluffin’ Some fine chord strumming Them fancy chords all jazzy Snazzy as a lassie gettin’ classy wit it and at Is that yours? no! whose is it? That’s me, a creature void of form but full of fat N stuff like that Full of fat N stuff like that We wander this house through the cavernous caves Carved from the dreams of our grand parents wings These angels they wanted for their progeny to be paraded And peppered with offers from the finest of ivy leagues Yes I was born with a silver foot in my mouth Always heading south towards a disaster Always heading south can’t find what we’re after Can’t communicate above the barking and the laughter Always heading south Cuss words in my mouth Towards a disaster, always But disasters don’t mean anything special to them What’s been crushed neath weight of the hate and expectations Catastrophe don’t sell as well as it used to Now it’s all a mind trip A double dip of homicide and patrimony Family ties and fried bologna You can’t fake the phony Cuz phony is the only pure thing left Of the 20th century So don’t push me towards some new sensation I got all I need with Al Green & Ricardo Montalban Fine Corinthian leather take me to the River And a radio station I got all I need On the radio Late at night When the moon is marooned And the dark is a moron Puking with laughter Turn the radio on And listen to the disaster Delight in things Delight in the light in things in the light Things worth seeing knowing and living The light in things are things worth giving You must admit it is delightful, is it not?
