Thanks for the reminder. It was a great review and I remember you had some appreciative words for him.

His books are essential reading for any lover of music. Can't say I foresaw his transformation into a dogged researcher of the roots of Texas music but we are all the better for it. I'll miss his Substack items. Sending good vibes to his family and friends. Music has lost one of it's greatest champions.

Hey Kevin, I didnt know you were here on SubStack but saw your name when I was looking for info on Corky, who I knew mostly from his writing. Its been a crazy summer up here in Asheville, where I relocated from after leaving Austin a few years back. I've been wondering why I hadnt been getting any substack emails from Michael but hadnt looked into it until just earlier, and it was this column of yours that broke the sad news to me. I am shocked, as everyone must have been. RIP Michael indeed! I didnt know him personally, we emailed a few times since I relocated, we shared a love & appreciation for our mutual friend Larry Williams (Jr Medlow), I read his columns in the Chronicle back in the 80s before I even lived in ATX & just showed up there to keep my sanity & escape West TX. He certainly had a special way with words, and could tell a great story!

I saw the photos of his memorial via the Statesman, sorry to have missed that, I'm sure it was healing in it's way and glad you & Mark played. Nice words you've written for him, you and others who knew him well. So sorry to learn he's gone! I hope is new book stays on track for it's release; last I heard it was to be this month. His previous books are great reads I think, as were his columns & articles from the many publications he nhanced. Maybe they'll find a novel in his things, wouldnt that be cool?

Odd to me that I learned of his passing from you, it is through his substack page that I saw you are also writing there! You too have a good way with words & tunes and are the GREAT SHINYRIBS! I miss seeing you & the band at Shady Grove, Old Settlers, Sams Town, etc. Be well & travel safe, I'll be seeing you here again in October! Abrazos amigo, and RIP Mr Corcoran. The silence is already weighing heavy here...
